Christmas in Our Town

Every year our small town holds a Christmas event where everyone gathers together downtown. Downtown is completely shut off and the streets are lined with vendors selling their products, delicious food, hot chocolate stands, rides, games, carriage rides, and pictures with Santa. Some of the stores stay open late so people can shop. The performance… Continue reading Christmas in Our Town

White Elephant

The amazing Paula at Light Motiffs II  tagged me in the new WordPress tradition: The White Elephant Game. The game was started by The Haunted Wordsmith. Rules are on that site, but it's very simple - just pick three bloggers and give them gifts! (Imaginary ones!) Here's my gift:  "To Michelle I give a yarn shopping spree, wheeeeee!"… Continue reading White Elephant

Elfster Gift Exchange

Recently I was invited to be a part of an Elfster Gift Exchange with other crafty people from all over. (Elftster is a Secret Santa type of gift exchange.) For this exchange our Christmas gifts to each other had to be handmade  and our budget was $10.00 or under. I made a scarf for my… Continue reading Elfster Gift Exchange

You Know It’s Christmas When…

Everyone is wearing those crazy ugly sweaters. Somebody ends up in the emergency room after attempting to hang Christmas lights. Suddenly every other car in the mall parking lot is decorated with reindeer antlers. Your tongue feels like sandpaper because you drank your hot chocolate too fast. Elf has been on television for a month. There is an inch of… Continue reading You Know It’s Christmas When…

Christmas Wreath DIY

I love looking at all the beautiful Christmas wreathes, but some of them are ridiculously expensive! I always make my own wreathes, usually out of Dollar Tree items. I wanted something a little simpler this year. I got this really cute white and silver wrapping paper at Walmart with reindeer on them so I wanted… Continue reading Christmas Wreath DIY

Weekend Happenings

This past Saturday was so gross! It was so foggy you could barely see anything when looking out the windows. The fog was supposed to lift somewhat by 10 Saturday morning, however it just continued to get worse all day. It was also very cold. So I decided to stay in and do absolutely nothing.… Continue reading Weekend Happenings

“16 Days of Activism : No Violence Against Women & Children”

Sunshiny SA Site

Five days into South Africa’s “16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children” and I have become acutely aware, almost hyper sensitive of the mounting cases of violence against women and children.

This international awareness-raising campaign takes place every year from 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to 10 December (International Human Rights Day).

South Africa adopted the campaign in 1998 with the aim of creating a safer society devoid of violence. Awareness is to be raised amongst South Africans about the about the plight of women and children who have been violated and abused. The motto is : “Count me in : Together moving to a non-violent South Africa forward.”

South Africans are advised to :

  • Wear a white ribbon (a symbol of peace and commitment) during the 16-day period.
  • Participate in the event…

Crochet Slouch Hats

I've been trying to sneak in some crocheting here and there. It relaxes me so when I'm feeling overwhelmed I grab some yarn and my crochet hook and hunker down on the couch. I've been working on several different patterns for beanies and hats and I just can't find my favorite. I love the faux… Continue reading Crochet Slouch Hats

Yesterday I wrote about our crazy messy front yard and the water pipe. You'll be happy to know that my husband got the water fixed yesterday afternoon. I was so happy to hear that water running through our pipes! Thank you all for your prayers!  I promised I would post the recipe for the Pumpkin… Continue reading Pumpkin Muffins
