Fall Hurricane Candle Holder DIY

It’s been cloudy on and off today with a slight breeze and even a rain shower earlier. Those dark clouds from Hurricane Florence are rolling in. The public schools are closed today and the high school football game scheduled for tonight was pushed up to last night. The local weather is still saying that Florence is going to go more south of us, yet we will still get some wind this weekend along with a lot of rain in the beginning of next week. Luckily it’s not as much as they were predicting before. Thank goodness!

With all this hurricane talk I thought I would make a fall hurricane candle holder. I love hurricane lamps. I’m not sure what it is about them that I love so much, but I just adore them! I think they are so cute! I mean, just look at this lamp:

How cute is that? And this one is just beautiful!

Of course I could buy that, but what would be the fun in that?

I have had this orange bowl for years and sometimes I put it out for fall and fill it up with handmade rag balls. But this year I wanted to do something different with it. I came up with the idea of using it as a base for my “lamp.”

I put some floral foam in the bottom just so I could have something to put my candle holder on. I didn’t really want to fill up the hole bowl with something.

I used this dry floral foam from Dollar Tree.

I laid moss over the foam and just kind of spread it all out.

I sat the candle holder on top of the moss and wrapped the leaves garland around the bottom of it. I added a primitive candle that I had already made. You can learn how to make your own here.

I’m so happy with how it turned out. I did not glue anything down so I can change it out next year and do something completely different!

My prayers are with all who are in the path of Hurricane Florence!

Have a blessed day!

  1. This is lovely, I like that you’ve turned something frightening into something beautiful, you’ve created a memory of Florence for your family that is about joy and peace. What a lovely thing to do. Bless you today and God keep turning that wind away. Lots of love, L
