Yardsale Footstool Makeover

Last year I found this cute little footstool at a yardsale. I picked it up and put it back down a few times, but something just kept drawing me back to it. It was cute in the way it was made but yet I did not like the fabric at all. Which is why I kept putting it down and walking away.

I finally make the decision to buy the stool. I mean, it was a steal at only $5 so I just couldn’t leave it there! I brought it home and there it sat for weeks, then months, until I finally figured out exactly what I wanted to do with it. Then it took forever to find the exact fabric I was looking for. Fortunately, my mom stumbled across a bag of fabric scraps at the Goodwill. The exact type of fabric I wanted was in that bag!! Needless to say I did a little happy dance.

I took the fabric off only to find another layer of fabric underneath. I didn’t really like that either. Plus it was yellow on the bottom so it had to have been a hundred years old. I took that off, too, of course, and put my own fabric on.

I love this fabric because it reminds me of a pillow that my granddaddy had when I was little. It was made of duck feathers and I loved when those little grey feathers would start poking out the side. I would pull them out and admire how soft they actually were.

I spray painted the bottom of the stool white and put the top back on. I think it turned out pretty well!

I looks perfect under my desk!

The desk was also a thrifty find. I found this piece at the Goodwill a few years ago priced at $10!! I was so excited! The drawers do not shut perfectly, but I’m okay with that.

I hope I’ve inspired you to get out and do some of your own DIY! Have a great weekend!
